Budgeting Your Time
When you are deciding to start laser hair removal, you’d be wise to consider the time commitment it requires. It’s not a demanding every day or every week schedule, but you can’t start laser hair removal now in preparation for, say, a trip you’re taking next month.

The entire process is usually performed in at least 6-8 treatments, usually spaced about 6-10 weeks apart from each other. They’re scheduled at such a distance to coincide with the hair growth cycle. Since laser energy only effects actively growing hair, the laser treatments must occur during the active stage of the hair growth. The number of treatments required varies a bit based on the body area being treated, and spacing is usually adjusted as treatments progress.

Of course, we’re all delightfully unique, so treatment schedules can differ depending on hair type, skin type, and genetic factors. But after a full 6-8 treatments, most patients enjoy the results they’d set out for. If you feel that you’re not getting a result at this point, you might want meet with a dermatologist to explore possible medical factors that may be causing the hair growth.

Budgeting Your Time for The Treatment Itself
The time required for each individual treatment can, of course, depend. (Remember—delightfully unique.) In general, though, small areas such as the upper lip may take several minutes. Large areas such as a full back may take several hours. An area somewhere in between, such as upper or lower leg, may take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour.

Budgeting Your Money
The cost of laser hair removal generally depends on a few factors: size of the treatment area, thickness of hair, and the clinic itself (overhead, payroll, competition, oh my!). But, really, it’s fairly simple—the larger the treatment area, the greater the cost. Most laser hair removal practices offer a base per-treatment price, but also offer “package” pricing for an entire series of treatments. This usually comes at an appealing reduced rate.

Many clinics also make the cost of laser hair removal a bit more bearable by offering reduced rate packages that combine logical areas of unwanted hair. For example, men can commonly purchase a package of back and shoulder treatments or back and arms. Many women benefit from a bikini line/thigh combo package or lip and chin. Be sure to ask about these and other possible promotions or discounts during your initial consultation.
